William “Bill” Brown, 71, of Jackson, passed away Saturday, March 5, 2022, at Jackson Medical Center. He was born in Grove Hill on April 21, 1950. A devoted, active member of Antioch Baptist Church, he served as a deacon and music director. Bill retired from Olin Chemical after 43 years of service, 10 of those years as the president of the IAM Union. He was also a member of the Santa Fe Masonic Lodge in Jackson and a member of the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a fan of The University of Alabama football program.

Preceding him in death were his parents, John Tollie Brown and Sarah Reeves Brown; and brothers, James “Jim” Brown and Ronnie Brown.

Bill is survived by his wife, Susan “Susie” Brown; children, Amy (Michael) Wathen, Angela “Sissy” (Bobby) Smith, Sarah Nicholson, Elizabeth (Allen) Lingerfelt and Tyler Brown; grandchildren, Jenna Wathen, Peyton Wathen, Kris Nicholson, Seth Smith, Samuel Smith, Sawyer Smith, John Allen Lingerfelt and Isaac Lingerfelt; great-granddaughter, Cora Ruth Brown; brothers, Michael (Sallie) Brown and Gene (Belinda) Brown; with numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be conducted at 11 a.m. on Thursday, March 10, at Antioch Baptist Church, with the Rev. Danny Chancey and Josh Deas officiating. Visitation was Wednesday, March 9, from 5 until 8 p.m., at the church and will be available again an hour prior to the service on Thursday. Interment will follow in the church cemetery, with Lathan Funeral Home directing.

Pallbearers will be Keith Harrell, Travis Overstreet, Daniel Ganus, Thomas Anderson, Jonathan McClendon, Jeff Overstreet, Carson Brown, Edward Brown, Wesley Williamson, Cole Alford, Glen Brannon and Walt Richardson.

Honorary pallbearers include Gene Brown, Michael Brown, Mike Wathen, Allen Lingerfelt, Bobby Smith, Joe Jackson, Tyler Brown and the Antioch Volunteer Fire Department.
