Tony James Johnson

Tony James Johnson, a resident of Jackson, better known to family and friends as “TJ,” made his earthly transition on March 2, 2023 at Infirmary Health in Saraland. Tony was born on Aug. 7, 1957 to Elnora Stewart Johnson and Perry Johnson Sr. in Chatom.

The eighth of 10 children, TJ was a graduate of the Washington County High School Class of 1975. Upon graduating, he enlisted in the United States Army. Tony was employed as a journeyman pipefitter, with various other jobs. Tony’s true gift was bringing his family and friends together. If you saw him smiling, you knew he was enjoying life. His passion was barbecuing, frying fish and watching Alabama football. His spirit just drew people to him; he had a big heart.

Preceding him in death were his parents; sister, Queen Gordon; and brothers, Aubrey Johnson and Perry Johnson Jr.

Tony leaves to cherish his memories his three wonderful children, Faytonia Johnson, Patrick (Tyronica) Johnson and Brandon Johnson, all of Duluth, Ga.; his loving friend, Lachandra Denson of Jackson; four sisters, Louise Parker of Jackson, Martha (JC) Stewart of State Line, Miss., Dorothy (Charles) Hicks of Cerritos, Calif., and Della (Lawerence) Wright of Carson, Calif.; two brothers, Jerry (Rosalind) Johnson of Douglasville, Ga. and Gregory (Ovetta) Johnson of Madison; three grandchildren, Madison Johnson, Briana Johnson and Zendaya Johnson; two goddaughters, Celestine

Lang and Serenity Scott; four bonus children, Adrienne Scott, Jarrett Scott, Zaiah Scott and Laiken McRae; sister-inlaw, Delois Johnson of Chatom; with a host of nieces, two devoted, Brenda (Herman) Cunningham and Michelle (Orlando) Holloway, and nephews, one devoted, Chris (Carol) Stewart; three devoted friends, Robert Bell, Andy Lang and Lionel McKenize; along with other relatives and friends.

Public viewing will be Friday, March 10, from 4:30 until 6:30 p.m., at Jackson Memorial Funeral Home, 203 East Ross St., Jackson, AL. Funeral services will be Saturday, March 11, with viewing from 11a.m. until the 12- noon funeral hour, at Lily Grove Baptist Church, 98 Martin Luther King Jr. Ave., Chatom.

Final life celebration was entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home.
