Ranya Snowden Shamily

Ranya Elajah Snowden Shamily was a resident of Detroit, Mich., who had returned to Frankville just a few months ago. Born May 2, 1972 to parents, Daisy Snowden and Anthony Thompson, she made her earthly transition Tuesday, Aug. 15, 2023 surrounded by her family.

Ranya accepted Christ at an early age and united with New St. Paul Baptist Church in Detroit, Mich.

A graduate of Central High School in Detroit, she graduated with honors and then continued her education at Florida A&M University. She enrolled and completed several online classes and later wrote and published three books, as well as publishing several others for other writers. Ranya later enrolled in a holistic medicine online class where she received her license to practice.

Waiting for her in heaven is her father, Anthony Thompson; her loving grandmother, Elvinia Snowden; and four uncles, Thomas Snowden, Scott Snowden, Alexander (Nick) Snowden and her favorite uncle, Alton Snowden.

Ranya leaves to cherish her loving memories, her husband, Christopher Shamily; her devoted and caring mother, Daisy Snowden, both of Frankville; her father figure, J.D. Jones of Alexander, Ark.; godmother, Rochelle Parker of Detroit; grandfather, Thomas Snowden of Frankville; her godson, A’dahreyon Dessausure of Greensboro, N.C.; two aunts, Mary (Shaka) Baonga, of San Antonio, Texas and Delois Snowden, of Greensboro, N.C.; four uncles, Eugene, Hank and Nathana Snowden of Frankville, and Woodrow Snowden of Jackson; a mother figure to two, Twanna Snowden of Greensboro, N.C. and Nevaeh Parker of Detroit; her in-laws of Detroit; her extended family in Illinois; with all of her aunts, cousins from around the globe, classmates, other relatives, neighbors and friends.

Funeral services will be Friday, Aug. 25, 2 p.m, at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, 318 Mt. Bethel Church Road in Frankville, with the Rev. Darin J. Rogers, pastor and eulogist. Interment will be in the church cemetery.

Final life celebration has been entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home.
