Meeting to develop the Piney Woods Birding Trail

A birding trail is being developed to include Clarke, Conecuh, Monroe and Washington counties. This trail will link the Coastal Birding Trail with the Black Belt Nature and Heritage Trail being developed under the governor’s Black Belt Action Commission. This trail will be called the Piney Woods Birding Trail.

Birders in each of the four counties on the trail are invited to participate in the process of identifying sites on public lands where birders can go to see birds. They are also needed to identify birds that either live in or fly through the area at certain times of the year.

A public meeting is scheduled for June 18, 6 p.m. at the Kimbell House. All birders are encouraged to be part of the effort. Photos of birds sighted in the area would be helpful.

This Piney Woods Birding Trail planning is sponsored by the environmental division of Alabama Power Company.
