Marvin Graves, age 78, stepped into eternity Aug. 3, 2019 following an extended illness in Montgomery. Services will be at Ridout’s Gardendale Chapel, 2029 Decatur Highway, Gardendale, Thursday, Aug. 8. Visitation will be from 10 until the 11 a.m. service. Interment will follow at Glenwood Cemetery in Morris.
Marvin was preceded in death by his parents, Mary and Oscar Graves; brothers, William Graves and Jerry Graves; and sister, Francis Quinn.
He is survived by his brothers, Arthur Graves and Frank Graves; and sister, Sherrell Elaine Graves. Marvin had four children, William Graves, Sheryl (JT) Turner, David Graves and Daniel Graves. He deeply loved his 11 grandchildren, Jodi, Kaitlyn, Madison, Chloe, Clarke, Campbell, Jett, Zeke, Elly Adah and Lily; and one great-grandson, John Rayburn.
Starting his day with a cup of coffee and the Bible in his lap, Marvin would hum and sing as he read God’s Word. His greatest joy was a deep love for Jesus, who changed his life. Around his home church of Pineview Baptist in Thomasville, he was always ready to share candy or a song with anyone. He found great hope in ministering to others who were sick or downcast. He knew the resounding depth of God’s love as Father and passionately shared the good news of the Gospel with others.
In lieu of flowers, Marvin requested a donation be made in his memory to 1 Way Ministries so that the good news and great hope Marvin found in Jesus can be carried around the world. Send donations to: 1 Way Ministries, 3301 Tartan Lane, Birmingham, AL 35242 or online at www.1wayministries.org.
