Music Workshop continues through Saturday

The Music Department of the Mt. Olive No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church Music Workshop continues through tonight (Thursday). Youth session is from 4:45-6:45; the adult session, 7-9.

Directors are Bro. Steffon McCovery of Mobile and the Rev. Cory Pruitt of Grove Hill. Bro. McCovery serves as minister of music at Mt. Sinia Missionary Baptist Church and the Rev. Pruitt serves as pastor of Mt. Zion No. 2 Missionary Baptist Church in Grove Hill. Both are accomplished musicians and instructors.

Registration fee is $5 for youth up to age 18 and $10 for adults. The workshop will conclude Saturday, 7 p.m. ,with a concert and choir celebration. Harriette Andrews-Douglas, minister of music at Mt. Olive and Pastor Stevenson E. Tullis invite everyone to attend.

Notice to JHS senior parents

Parents of Jackson High School seniors in the Class of 2011 are asked to attend a meeting tonight, Thursday, July 15, 6 p.m., in the JHS gym. The purpose is to finalize and discuss some upcoming events pertaining to the seniors.

Senior portraits will be Aug. 5 and 6 in the auditorium. Bill Miller Photography will send postcards to all seniors with the specific date and time.

Bonner staff member to visit WashCo

A staff member from the office of U.S. Representative Jo Bonner (R-AL) will stop at the McIntosh Town Hall today, Thursday, July 15, from 9:30-10:30 a.m. The purpose is to meet with constituents experiencing difficulties with the federal government and who are seeking the congressman’s assistance in resolving these problems.

Downtown Market & Art Walk

CCARC in partnership with the Jackson Area Chamber of Commerce and the city of Jackson will host a Downtown Market and Art Walk Saturday, Aug. 7. There will be live music, food and lots of fun. Southern artisans will teach how to make art from recycled goods with redo finds and participants will be able to throw pottery on a pottery wheel with Thee Art N U. Creations from the recent Art Camp will also be displayed at the Framery.

Admission is free.

All vendors of art, crafts, produce and antiques are encouraged to take part. There is a $25 vendor fee. For additional information call Trista Walker at 246-3000.

T-shirts commemorating Jackson Academy’s 40th anniversary are now available. For more information contact the school at 246-5552.

Social assistance on Wednesdays at Salvation Army

The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can. For additional information call 246-5693.

Narcotics Anonymous meeting

Narcotics Anonymous will be meeting Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Church St., Jackson.

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall of Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m.; Friday, 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.

Diabetes Classes

Heart of Dixie Collectors Club

meets last Monday of month

The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.

Some collections may include but are not limited to Indian artifacts, coins, postcards, old paper, books, bottles, advertising memorabilia, etc. For additional information contact Earl Handley at (251) 247-2438.

VFW Post 5355 meets third Thursday of month

World War II, Korean War, Vietnam War and all other veterans are welcome to attend the monthly meeting of VFW Post 5355, the third Thursday of every month, 6 p.m., at the VFW meeting hall located on Club Wiley Road in Jackson.
