Laura Forshee Garraway, a resident of Jackson, was born Jan. 12, 1923 to the late Augusta and Lillie Chaney Forshee in Pennington. In the early morning of Jan. 27, 2014 at Providence Hospital in Mobile, she transitioned from this earthly life.
Early in life, she was united in holy matrimony to the late Homer Garraway. She was a member of the Star Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Jackson. She was affectionately known throughout the Depot community as “Mrs. Laura”.
Mrs. Garraway leaves to cherish her precious memories two daughters, Mary E. Gamble and Lauretta Garraway; son, Cedric Garraway, all of Jackson; two sisters, Gussie Rowden of Thomasville and Dora Taylor Hobbs of Atlanta, Ga.; five grandchildren, 12 greatgrandchildren and two greatgreat grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were Saturday, Feb. 1, at the Star Zion A.M.E. Zion Church in Jackson. The Rev. Alvin Hamilton, pastor, was the officiating minister. Interment followed in the Woodlawn Cemetery in Jackson under the direction of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home in Jackson.
