Jackson girls win over Thomasville, play for area championship April 29

The Jackson High School Lady Aggies softball team played Tuesday, April 19 at home against Satsuma High School, losing 3-0. Jackson won on the road at Thomasville High School 11-8 Wednesday, April 20.

Jackson took the lead late and defeated Thomasville 11-8 on Wednesday. The game was tied at seven with the Lady Aggies batting in the top of the eighth when Brelee Woolfolk singled on the first pitch of the at bat, scoring two runs.

Savannah Downey led Jackson to victory, driving in four runs. Downey went 3-for-5 at the plate. She drove in runs on a home run in the third and a single in the fourth.

Jackson fired up the offense in the first inning, when the Lady Aggies scored one run on a stolen base.

Caten Roberts was in the circle for Jackson. The ace lasted two and a third innings, allowing seven hits and five runs while walking one.

Jackson tallied one home run on the day when Downey put one out in the third inning.

JHS racked up 12 hits in the game. Downey, Alacia Goulding, Autumn Rocker and Woolfolk had multiple hits for the Lady Aggies. Downey led Jackson with three hits in five at bats. Thomasville totaled 10 hits in the game.

Both teams were strong in the circle on Tuesday, but Satsuma was a little stronger at the plate in the victory over Jackson. Savannah Downey started the game for Jackson and recorded 15 outs.

A bright spot for Jackson was a single by Downey in the first inning.

The pitcher for Satsuma lasted seven innings, allowing three hits and zero runs while striking out 11 and walking zero.

Downey led things off in the circle for Jackson, allowing six hits and one run over five innings, striking out one. Caten Roberts threw two innings out of the bullpen.

Downey, Tresure Sellers and Tay Jackson each collected one hit to lead Jackson.

Jackson plays next at home against Wilcox Central High School on Friday, April 29 at 3:15 p.m. for the area championship.
