The Washington County High School Bulldogs will face the McIntosh Demons Friday, Aug. 18 at 7 p.m. in a jamboree game in Chatom.
The Bulldogs were 1-9 last year in AHSAA Class 2A and 0-5 in Region 1. The Demons were 3-4 and 3-3 in Region 1 in AHSAA Class 1A.
WCHS Head Coach Johnny Carpenter was 1-9 his first season with the Bulldogs and 0-5 in region play. McIntosh Head Coach Roosevelt Moore is 9-15 in three seasons with the Demons.
“We have come a long way the past two weeks, but still have a lot to clean up. I am proud of the boys working hard. I think we’re going to have some good competition with McIntosh. I know they have a few transfers in and a couple more kids out playing so we are going to have our hands full.
“It is definitely going to take a team effort, but if we play solid football I think we should be fine. On offense we are looking good and starting to come together. From left to right it will be seniors Braxton Mc- Neil and Jon Jon Williams, freshman Jesse Johnson, juniors Braxton Taylor and KeKe Bivens, averaging 275 pounds across the line. Sophomore Kelin May will start at quarterback. Starting at running back will be senior Aaron Reed. Starting at receiver will be juniors Jaylyn Houze and C.J. Jordan, senior Devon Houston and Reed.
“On defense we aren’t 100 percent sure about everything, where the pieces are going to fit on that side of the ball. We have three really good players returning, Williams, Braxton Rivers and Rylee Brantley. Our place-kicking and punting duties will be done by Camden Setlack. He can kick from 38 to 42 yards,” said WCHS Head Coach Carpenter.
McIntosh Head Coach Moore said, “We will start Shon Williams at quarterback, Kevonte Diamond at running back, Isaac Reed, Mekie Jones and Driten Sullivan at receiver. Our offensive line will have Kameron Brown, Jacoby Snow, Alfred Weaver and Denzarius Hill. Defensive linemen will be Zac Allen, Brown, Weaver and Snow. All these guys will do big things for us this year. They all have been working hard this summer and getting stronger. I know WCHS will be well coached and will have a really good team this year.”
