Bernice M. Howard, a resident of Grove Hill, made her earthly transition on Saturday, Sept. 2, 2023, while at Grove Hill Memorial Hospital in Grove Hill. She was born on July 4, 1933 to Carrie Fenner Howard and Percy Howard.
Early in life she joined Cedar Fork Baptist Church under the leadership of Pastor Credell Bolden Sr., was baptized and served as a faithful member until her health began to fail. Bernice remained faithful in her obligations to the church until her passing. A God-fearing woman, she loved everyone she met.
She was a devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and great-great-grandmother. She retired from Thomasville Mental Health Center, following many years of dedicated service.
Preceding her in death was her longtime companion of 41 years, Jessie Lee Powell; daughter, Brenda Howard; granddaughter, Dorothy Head Howard; sister, Mary Robinson; and brothers, Percy, Hershey and Simon Howard; son-in-law, Earnest W. Baxter Jr.
Bernice ’ s memories will be forever cherished by her three sons, Jerry Evans of Grove Hill, Billy (JacQuelin) Howard of Copper Cove, Texas and Kimble (Betty) Howard of Thomasville; four daughters, Mary Baxter of Mobile, Terris Paige of Prichard, Delois Hill of Los Angeles, Calif., and Katie (James) Jones of Jackson; with a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends too numerous to name; six special friends, Gladys Mc- Bride, Mary Malone, Gussie Rodgers, Mary Jane Ward, Lelia Patterson and Deacon Mack (Cynthia) Wright Sr.
Service was Saturday, Sept. 9, with viewing from 10 until the 11 a.m. funeral hour, at Cedar Fork Baptist Church, 3047 Morning Star Road, Whatley. Interment followed in the church cemetery.
Final life celebration has been entrusted to Jackson Memorial Funeral Home.
