Mrs. Archie Mae Land Coats, age 79, a native of the Allen community of Grove Hill, was born June 14, 1942 to the parentage of the late Mrs. Lelia Mae Jackson Jones. She departed this life Nov. 29, 2021 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center in Mobile.

Mrs. Coats was educated in the Clarke County School System and graduated from Wilson Hall High School.

She was a loyal and faithful member of Mt. Zion No. 2 Baptist Church, where she served as head usher, attended Bible study, and was a Matron. Mrs. Coats was also an Eastern Star.

Mrs. Coats loved sports with a passion! She was an avid University of Alabama Football Fan: ROLL TIDE! She enjoyed watching all sports including the Atlanta Braves, Los Angeles Dodgers, Indianapolis Colts, and Golden State Warriors.

On Dec. 9, 1967, she was united in Holy Matrimony to the late Willie Ralph Coats. They were blessed with 52 wonderful years of marriage.

Mrs. Coats retired as a custodian for First US Bank. Her employment throughout the years also included custodial duties at the office of Dr. Hawkins, working in the dietary department of the Clarke County Jail, and as a Clarke County poll worker.

In addition to her parents and husband, Mrs. Coats is preceded in death by two sisters, Betty Jean Bates and Dora Ann Lee; and a brother, Ted Jones.

Many loving and precious memories are cherished in the hearts of her devoted son, Myron (Torrellas) Coats of Moundville; four grandchildren, William Marshall and Ayanna Coats, both of Tuscaloosa, Aviona (Ronnie) Pugh of Grove Hill and Madyson Harris of Moundville; four greatgrandchildren, Zechariah Pugh, Zachary Pugh, Zariah Pugh and Za’Rayia Pugh, all of Grove Hill; two sisters, Dorothy Horton and Charlotte Marie Holloman Jackson; and four brothers, Joby Jackson, Ray Jones, Maxie Jones and James Jones; devoted nephew, Maurice Jackson of Jackson; with a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, two very special first cousins, Robert Williams of Harvest and Bobby Maull of Atlanta, Ga., and other relatives and friends.

Viewing was Friday, Dec. 3, from 6 until 7:30 p.m., at Andrews Funeral Home; viewing Saturday, Dec. 4, was from 10:30 a.m. until the 12-noon service at Mount Zion No. 2 Baptist Church, 2930 Mount Zion Road, Grove Hill, AL 36451. The Rev. William Jackson, pastor, was the eulogist. Burial followed in Magnolia Gardens, 20331 Hwy 43, Grove Hill, AL.

Facial masks are required at all observances and social distancing will be implemented.
