When the crowd gathered for a brisk walk Saturday morning at H.W. Pearce Memorial Park, people of all ages represented the Alpha Women’s Resource Center’s efforts to keep moving forward.

The annual Walk for Life moved to the park for the first time since the event began to celebrate a quarter of a century of service.

“This is a big year for the Alpha Center,” Executive Director Diane Pruitt said. “We are recognizing 25 years of ministry, and the awesomeness of having this ministry 25 years ago, not realizing how many lives we could touch. Now, every year, we are reaching at least 500 different ladies and men coming in and receiving services from us.”

The center’s missions recognize the importance of keeping God’s word in their heart and not giving up, Pruitt said.

“We know what kind of world we live in, we know the obstacles that we face every day here at the Alpha Center or your job or at church,” she said. “We’re always in that perpetual battle in spiritual warfare.”

Pruitt shared Psalm 139, a Scripture that is especially close to the hearts of those who work and volunteer with women’s resource centers. David thanks God for making him so complex, which something the center’s workers see through their work every day.

“When we get to see a new life on an ultrasound, there is just no better reinforcement of what God’s Word is telling us about that baby,” she said. “I can’t imagine how many lives, because of what we do as a team, are going to be affected that we are going to see when we get to heaven and how many women will say, ‘I did not know how much God loved me until I came the Alpha Center.’”

Pruitt thanked everyone for supporting the walk and the center’s programs. By becoming involved in the center, she assured everyone they are having a positive impact on the community.

“What you are doing by supporting the center and being involved in the ministry is making a difference,” she said. “We can’t do it by ourselves, and we know that, but we are here to try to spread God’s Word to everybody.”

The center is a medical mobile ministry dedicated to serving women and families in need while sharing truth, love and grace.

In addition to their Highway 43 location, the center offers services through a mobile unit in Coffeeville, Calvert, Chatom, McIntosh and Pine Hill.

The unit will be in Coffeeville March 13, Pine Hill March 27, Chatom March 15 and McIntosh March 20 and 22.

This Saturday and Saturday, March 17, walkers will have a chance to participate in additional fund-raising programs.

A Chatom walk is scheduled for Saturday, March 10, at the Dixie Youth ball fields at 8:30 a.m., and a Thomasville event has been added for the following Saturday.

The Thomasville walk is set for the walking track at the Gates Drive Park. Registration will begin at 8, and the walk will start at 8:30 a.m.
