Mary Rose Brooks Kearley

Mary Rose Brooks Kearley, age 90, of Jackson, passed away Jan. 27, 2017 at Providence Hospital in Mobile. Mary was a WWII bride from Bristol, England.

Mary loved her family and was always caring and giving. She believed in giving back to her community and became a naturalized citizen. Following retirement, she moved to Jackson and became a very active member of the community. Mary loved her church and was a lifelong member of the Episcopal Church in England, Monroeville and Jackson. Mary loved people and was always willing to help with a warm, happy smile. She was a member of The New to Jackson Club, AARP, Three Arts Club, The Women’s Club, The Garden Club, two bridge clubs and others. She volunteered many hours with the Red Cross, including being in charge of the local Jackson blood drives, Meals on Wheels, reading to children at Gilmore Elementary, the Hospital Auxiliary, and other organizations. She also was chosen as Jackson’s Citizen of the Year in 1994.

Mary is survived by her two children, John Kearley (Tessa Shuk) of Richmond, Va., and Rosemary (Steve) Holland of Jackson; four granddaughters, Heather (Hunter) Gwynn of Saraland, Marybeth (Stan) Riley of Prattville, Emily (Andres Hernandez) Kearley and Leslie Kearley, both of Charleston, S.C.; and five beloved great-grandchildren, Alicia Glover, Madison Riley, Hayden and Mason Gwynn, and June Hernandez.

Preceding her in death was her brother, Philip Brooks; daughter-in-law, June Kearley; and her loving husband, James E. Kearley.

A memorial services was conducted Wednesday, Feb. 1, at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church in Jackson. Donations in lieu of flowers are requested for Wilmer Hall Children’s Home, 3811 Old Shell Road, Mobile, AL 36608 or www.wilmerhall.org.
