Jessie Sullivan Fisher

Jessie Beatrice Sullivan Fisher, age 84, a native and resident of McIntosh, was born April 14, 1927 to the late Albert and Harriett Wiley Sullivan. She departed this life Feb. 8, 2012 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center.

She united with Saint Union Baptist Church in McIntosh at an early age and served faithfully as a deaconess, superintendent of the Sunday School and a choir member.

Mrs. Fisher attended Tuskegee Institute and later received a Master of Arts in education from Alabama A&M University. She was a member of the AETA, Alabama Retired Teacher Association.

During her career, she was employed by the Washington County School System as a teacher/counselor and was instrumental in several afterschool education and summer school programs. She was affiliated with the Alabama Tombigbee Waterway and was also a member of Estelle James Chapter No. 714 Order of the Eastern Star.

In addition to her parents, preceding her in death were her husband, Earl R. Fisher, and a brother, Lester Sullivan.

Survivors include two sisters, Gwen S. (Charles) Jones and Carolyn S. (Rev. Robert) White, both of Decatur, Ill.; two brothers, Elmer (Betty) Sullivan and Alfonse Sullivan, both of McIntosh; a god-daughter, Yolanda Curtis of Mobile; four nieces, Harriett (Jack) Lockett, Kasey Sullivan, Candace White and Angela White; two nephews, Ray Jordan and Patrice Sullivan; 12 great-nieces and nephews; two great-great-nieces; a sister in-law, Helen Ranson of New York, N.Y.; and a host of cousins, one devoted, Evonne Fisher Woods of Mobile; many friends, one devoted, Sophieline Champion of Annemanie; and other relatives.

Viewing will be Saturday, Feb 18, from 10 until the 11 a.m. service at Saint Union Baptist Church with Elder Al Clyde Sauls, pastor, as eulogist.

Following the burial in Vaughn Cemetery in McIntosh, under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson, the family will receive friends in the fellowship hall of the church.
