Alice Chapman Loyd

Alice Chapman Loyd was born Feb. 11, 1913 to the late Lisa Dortch and Willie Allen in Tallahata Springs. She departed this life Nov. 21, 2011 in a local health care facility at 98 years of age.

Mrs. Loyd was an active and faithful member of Berry’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church until her health failed. She was also a member of the Lay Council, Home Mission, Women’s Home and Overseas Missionary Society and the Pastor’s Aid Board, where she housed many preachers and evangelists for a number of years.

She was a homemaker for several years prior to her employment with the Clarke County Department of Pension’s and Security as a foster parent. During her employment, she developed a close bond with community, county and state constituents.

Mrs. Loyd enjoyed cooking for others, gardening and spending time with family and friends, as well as bringing bags of candy to the children at church.

Survivors include one brother, Cleveland Dortch; a host of nephews, nieces, other relatives and friends; extended family, Diane Chapman, Lillian Chapman, Sandra Chapman Dickinson; and dedicated friends, Eloise E. Gill and Saloma B. Lawson.

Funeral services were at Berry’s Chapel A.M.E. Zion Church in Winn with the Rev. Edward Seabron officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery under the direction of Small’s Mortuary in Mobile.
