Julia Mitchell McKinnis

Julia Lee Mitchell McKinnis, age 79, a native of Koenton and a resident of Hinesville, Ga., was born to the parentage of the late Mamie and Clayborn Hicks Mitchell. She departed this life Aug. 22, 2011 at Saint Joseph Candler Hospital in Savannah, Ga. Mrs. McKinnis was a homemaker.

She accepted Christ at an early age and united with Stonewall Baptist Church in the Jordan community of Chatom. She later relocated to Atwater, Calif. and Alexandria, Va.

Her family and friends remember her home as one of love, joy and peace.

Julia was united in holy matrimony to Matthew James McKinnis, who preceded her in death.

She was also preceded in death by one of six children she reared, a daughter, Agnes Delois McKinnis, and two brothers, Rubin Mitchell and Hayward Mitchell.

She leaves to cherish her memories three sons, Willie James McKinnis and Steven (Cynthia) McKinnis, both of Chatom and Roger (Angela) McKinnis of Livingston; two daughters, Bete’ McKinnis, of Woodbridge, Va. and Gloria (Leon) Dingle of Hinesville, Ga.; two brothers, Jodie (Rosa Lee) Mitchell of Sacramento, Calif. and Joseph (Sue) Mitchell of Alexandria, Va. She also leaves a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and many other relatives and friends.

Viewing will be Monday, Aug. 29, from 10 until the 11 a.m. service at Stonewall Baptist Church. The Rev. William Triplett, pastor, and the Rev. Willie C. McNeil, eulogist, will be officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson.
