Frank Herndon Rivers
Frank Herndon Rivers, 86, a native of Coffeeville and resident of Grove Hill, died Nov. 24, 2010 in a Mobile hospital. Mr. Rivers was retired from Vanity Fair Mills as manager of the stock room. A member of the Tompkins Baptist Church in Grove Hill, he was a Sunday School teacher, a deacon, as well as serving as chairman of the deacons for several years, and was named Deacon Emeritus.
His wife, Ellen Rivers, preceded him in death.
Survivors include one daughter, Kay Rivers (James E.) Paul of Grove Hill; two grandchildren, Julie Paul (Michael) Parmer of Selma and James Andrews (Ellen Allday) Paul of Grove Hill; and six great-grandchildren, Faith Parmer, Ellen Parmer, Mary Parmer, Ben Parmer, Emma Paul and James E. Paul III.
Funeral services were Nov. 26 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson with services directed by Dr. Johnny Kendrick, the Rev. Don Newton, Larry Dunagan, Mr. Rivers’ nephew, and Esther Edge as pianist. Interment was in the Tompkins Baptist Church Cemetery in Grove Hill under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home of Jackson.
Active pallbearers were Ward Edge, Thomas Armistead, Keith Newton, Reginald Rivers Jr., Alvin Rivers, Randy Hare and Larry Dunagan. Honorary pallbearers included Ralph Armistead, Maybon Armistead and O.T. Armistead.
The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Tompkins Baptist Church Building Fund at 14130 Highway 43, Grove Hill, AL 36451.
