Leonard Melvin Griffin

of Jackson prior to entering Seabreeze Nursing Health Care in Mobile in 2000, died Sept. 21, 2009 at that institution. A veteran of the United States Army, having served in World War II, he was a member of Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson. He was married to Annie Ruth Smith.

Survivors include two daughters, devoted daughter Felicia L. (Willie) Smith and Lenetta R. (Micheal) Lankford, both of Mobile; four grandchildren and six grandchildren; one sister-in-law, Barbara Dubose Griffin of Mobile; four devoted nieces, Jamye Carter, Evelyn Griffin, Mattie Jones and Sharon McCleod; and dedicated friend, Livingston Williams.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Julia and Lee Griffin; six sisters, Corrie Lee James, Elizabeth McCleod, Rosie Dubose, Loudella Griffin, Susie P. Witherspoon and Homer Lee Griffin; four brothers, Robert Griffin, Alfred Griffin, Theodore Griffin and Lamar Griffin; and grandson, Micheal A. Lankford.

Funeral services will be Saturday, Sept. 26 with viewing 12 noon until the 2 p.m. funeral hour at Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church with the Rev. Stevenson E. Tullis, pastor, as officiating minister. Interment will follow in the Woodlawn Cemetery with military honors with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.

After the interment, the family will receive friends and relatives in the church fellowship hall.
