Aggies crush 'Dawgs
Damien Foreman and Sam Harbuck bring down Jerome Ivory. The Jackson Aggies used a strong and opportunistic defense to dispatch the Clarke County High School Bulldogs 50-0 last Friday night at John D. Simpkins Stadium, home of Legion Field.
Clarke County hit pay dirt first in the game, but the 46-yard run by Tim Barnett was called back due to a holding penalty.
Jackson's defense stiffened and the Bulldogs turned the ball over on the JHS 19-yard line.
Damien Bracy broke for a 49- yard jaunt on the first play for the Aggies. Two plays later Ranse Hare hit Laprentiss Morris with a 20-yard fade in the right corner of the end zone for the score.
John David Mitchell kicked the PAT, making it 7-0 with 1:41 left in the period.
On the ensuing CCHS possession, quarterback Daniel Bedwell was knocked into the wall and suffered what may have been a mild concussion.
Near midfield Bedwell's pitch went astray. Jackson's Kawan Washington picked up the loose pigskin and raced 47 yards for the Aggie defensive touchdown. Mitchell's kick sailed wide left, but Jackson had a 13-0 lead with 10:20 left in the second quarter.
On the ensuing kickoff Barnett took the kick and raced 70 yards down to the JHS 26-yard line where Mitchell made a TD saving tackle.
The drive stalled and Ramone Vacillie's 47-yard field goal attempt came up short.
Jackson took over and drove to pay dirt. Bracy capped the drive with a 12-yard run up the middle.
Mitchell converted the kick and Jackson had a 20-0 lead with 4:07 left in the half.
Neither team threatened again and the half ended with that score.
The Jackson defense set the tone in the second half.
The Aggies had the first possession and promptly 53 yards, all on the ground, with Joe Joe Jackson ending the drive with a 9-yard run.
Mitchell's kick made the score 27-0 with 8:34 left in the period.
On the CCHS possession, the Bulldogs were forced to punt.
There was a bad snap on the punt attempt and Jackson took over at the 5-yard line.
On the first play Bracy scored. The kick was no good, but Jackson had a 33-0 lead with 6:07 left in the third.
Josh Kimbell recovered a fumble on the next CCHS offensive possession to give the Aggies the ball at the Bulldog 35-yard line.
The drive stalled at the 19-yard line, Mitchell came on kicked the 36-yard field goal, making it 36- 0 with :29 left in the frame.
Early in the fourth quarter Jackson got the ball on the 2- yard line after a bad CCHS punt attempt.
On the second play back-up QB Dustin Moseley scored on the 1-yard keeper. The PAT was good, making it 43-0 with 10:42 left in the game.
CCHS mounted a drive on the ensuing possession, but a bad pitch hit the Legion Field turf, Lakendrick James took the ball on one hop and raced 60 yards for the final score of the game, making the final score 50-0.
Bracy led all rushers with 139 yards on 12 carries and a pair of scores.
This Friday the Aggies (3-0, 2- 0) look to extend their winning streak as they head to Covington County to take on the Andalusia Bulldogs (3-0, 2-0) in a big region contest.
CCHS (1-2, 1-1) looks to rebuild but will have the daunting task of facing the defending 4A champion UMS-Wright Bulldogs (2-1, 1-1).
Both games start at 7 p.m.
