A McIntosh man was arrested Sunday, Sept. 13, after Washington County lawmen discovered items stolen from a county work yard building in his possession.

According to Sheriff Richard Stringer, Carl M. Weaver II, 22, is accused of stealing an air conditioning unit and television from the county commission's building located at its work yard on Ruffin Odom Road in the Fairford community. He said the department received a call from a citizen who observed Weaver on the property.

"He (Weaver) had removed the air conditioning unit and was attempting to remove the television," said the Sheriff. "We pursued him through the woods to his residence and recovered both items."

Stringer said other thefts have been reported at the site in the recent past, but it is unclear whether or not Weaver is responsible. "We continue to investigate the matter," he added.

Weaver was charged with second degree theft of property and third degree burglary. Deputies assisting the sheriff with Weaver's pursuit and arrest were Robbie Reid, David Robinson and Freddie O'Neal Jr.
