The Clarke County Education Retirees Association's first meeting of the 2009-2010 year is today (Thursday, Sept. 17), 11:45 a.m., at the Jackson Steakhouse. Yearbooks will be passed out along with other program activities. All members and those interested in becoming members are urged to attend.

Acclaimed author and storyteller Kathryn Tucker Windham will sign copies of her latest book, "Spit, Scarey Ann & Sweat Bees," at the Clarke County Museum in Grove Hill on Saturday, Sept. 19, at 10 a.m. All of Mrs. Windham's books will be for sale in the museum bookstore and available for signing. Litter Awareness Week

will be Sept. 20-26

The Clarke County antilitter committee encourages all to fight litter in Clarke County. Litter Awareness Week will be Sept. 20-26. Volunteers are needed to spread the word that litter is against the law.

Those interested in keeping their community litter free may volunteer by contacting the Clarke County Citizens Against Litter Committee and Alabama PALS, 251-276- 3358 or 251-275-4188. Everyone's help is needed.

'Cow Patty Drop'

in WashCo Sept. 24

'Cruising For CAC'

motorcycle ride

fund-raiser

There will be a motorcycle ride fund-raiser supporting the Child Advocacy Center in Grove Hill and their satellite offices in Chatom and Gilbertown on Saturday, Sept. 26. Participants will be registering at either Dunn's Exxon in Grove Hill at 7:30 a.m. with the bikers leaving at 8:30; or Lake Ellis Park in Chatom at 8 a.m. with bikes departing at 9:15.

Registration fees are $20 per bike, with $10 for each additional bike from the same household. Raffle tickets are included with the price of registration. Items will be given away upon arrival at Ezell's Fish Camp in Lavaca. All proceeds support the Regional Child Advocacy Center.

The Washington County Alabama Democratic Conference is hosting its first annual ADC banquet at the Chatom Community Center on Saturday, Sept. 26 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $25 per person; $50 per couple; and $200 per table. Special guests will include ADC President Dr. Joe Reed and others.

'Family & Friends Day' at Mt. Gilead Missionary

Mt. Gilead Missionary Baptist Church will host their "Family & Friends Day" program on Sunday, Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. Guest speaker will be the Rev. Robert Collins, pastor of Little Sunflower Baptist Church No. 3 of Sunflower. Pastor Lee Edward Bush Jr. welcomes all to attend.

Community meeting

for citizens of District 4

There will be a community meeting for the citizens of District 4, Tuesday, Sept. 29, 6:30 p.m. at the Antioch A.M.E. Church fellowship hall in Alma. This will be an opportunity for the citizens to express their concerns about issues related to the community. The evening will be hosted by Commissioner Tyrone Moye, District 4 representative.

All are encouraged to come and take part and share their concerns.

Bedwell reunion

A Bedwell reunion is scheduled for Oct. 11 at W.V. Bedwell's residence in the Sandflat community on County Road 9. The day will begin with lunch. All are asked to bring a covered dish and lawn chair.

5th Annual Benefit

Trail Ride

"Jack Rabbit's" 5th Annual Benefit Trail Ride will be Oct. 17 at Long's Horse Park located four miles west of Millry. The trail ride begins at 9 a.m. Fees are $15 per rider/$30 per family of four. There will be an auction conducted at 5:30 Saturday night followed by live entertainment.

The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can. For additional information call 246-5693.

Narcotics Anonymous will be meeting Tuesdays at 5:30 p.m., First Presbyterian Church, 302 E. Church St., Jackson.

Alcoholics Anonymous

Alcoholics Anonymous meetings are conducted in the fellowship hall of Visitation Catholic Church, West Clinton Street in Jackson Wednesdays, 6:30 p.m. and Saturdays, 9 a.m.

Heart of Dixie Collectors Club meets last Monday

The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.
