Lindsay Scogin awarded 2009 Mathews Scholarship
Lindsay Scogin The Community Foundation of South Alabama announced today the winner of the 2009 Mathews Scholarship. The scholarship has been awarded to the University of Alabama to benefit Lindsay Scogin, who will pursue a degree in elementary education.
Scogin is a Jackson High School senior and the daughter of Ann and Ron Scogin of Jackson. A National Honor Society, "A" Honor Roll student, she was SGA representative during her senior year, and sang with the Jackson High School Madrigal and with the Aggie Singers. Her community activities included being a Jackson City Park volunteer, Relay for Life, Clarke- Washington Fair volunteer, Toys for Tots and Salvation Army Food Drive volunteer. She is also an active member of the First United Methodist Church and has been a Vacation Bible School teacher and a member of the Youth Pastor Search Committee.
The purpose of the Mathews Scholarship is to support students who live in Clarke County and are entering the teaching profession. The scholarship is given in honor of Doris P. and Forrest Lee Mathews, Louise Mathews Hearn and Louis Waldrum Mathews, the family of Emma Bumpers and David Chapman Mathews. Many family members have been involved in education in Clarke County.
The Scholarship Awards Committee is chaired by Marion Bumpers. Lynda W. Malone and Peggy B. Strong are committee members.
