Thomas Ray Powell
Thomas Ray Powell, 82, died Jan. 13, 2009 at a Baldwin County Nursing Home. A native of Suggsville and resident of Grove Hill, he served in the United States Navy in WWII. He was a conductor for Southern Railways and a member of the First Baptist Church of Jackson.
Survivors include two sons, Billy (Katie) Powell and John Powell, both of Selma; one daughter, Elizabeth Weaver of Selma; four brothers, Bobby Neal Powell of Walker Springs, DeVane (Mary) Powell of Birmingham, Royce (Martha Jo) Powell of Thomasville and Francis (San San) Powell of Grove Hill; two sisters, Shelby (Larry) Sullivan of Wagarville and Jane (Ray) Sheffield of Grove Hill; and three grandchildren.
Preceding him in death were his wife, Helen Powell; brother, Henri Powell; and son, Tommy Powell.
Funeral services are today (Jan. 15), with viewing from 10 a.m. until the 11 a.m. funeral service in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill. The Rev. Percy Clarke is officiating. Interment will be in the Whatley Cemetery.
