Busy fingers anticipated during the Iron Bowl
The story lines are almost too good to be true. If Auburn wins, of course, they can hold up seven fingers proudly because it will be the seventh straight victory for Tommy Tuberville's squad. A Bama win could also result in seven fingers being flashed, but this time by giddy Tide fans basking in the fact that a Crimson Tide victory would mean the Tigers would have seven losses for the season. Then there is just the good ole number one finger if Bama wins. As in the Crimson is No. 1 in the country and has a onegame winning streak. Fingers are not the only things that will be active in the stadium. According to Internet sites, their is a move to have Crimson Tide fans welcome Tubbs and the Tigers with duck calls. This, of course, to poke fun at the Auburn coaching staff's annual duck hunting trip during the peak of recruiting season every year. All of the sidebars aside, this game is extremely important to both programs. Although right now it seems they are going in completely different directions, that can change with a win in this game. Can Bama and coach Nick Saban do the unthinkable and cap off a perfect 12-0 regular season in year number two of the Saban era? I bet Bama fans are trying to figure out a way right now to add two more fingers because "12" is already a sacred number around the Capstone. Picking up win number 12 against Auburn, while breaking a six-game losing streak and capping a perfect season, would have to be sweet for anyone wearing Crimson and White. This is a huge game for Auburn because a loss would almost be too much to handle for the Auburn faithful. A loss drops their record to a pedestrian 5-7. More importantly, it assures the Tigers a place on the sofa come bowl season. Hey, at least they will be home for Christmas. But that can not be good news for the Auburn coaches.
So as you can see this is a huge game, as usual, for both programs. While Alabama and the Bama nation are riding a Tidal wave on what appears to be a special season, the Tigers are hoping to salvage their season and coaches' career. Something has to give.
