Warren Thomas Pippen
Warren Thomas Pippen, 85, a native of Edgewater and resident of Grove Hill, died Oct. 3, 2008 at Mobile Infirmary Medical Center in Mobile. He received a bachelor of science in education from Miles College, furthered his studies toward a master's in education and was a member of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity. A member of the Orange Hill Baptist Church in Grove Hill, he served as a church musician for over 50 years and as general program chairman and on the finance board. A United States Navy veteran, attaining the rank of Steward Second Class and serving from May 7, 1943 until honorably discharged March 8, 1946, he received the Victory Medal, Philippine Operations Medal, American Theatre Medal and the Asiatic-Pacific Medal. Pippen retired as an educator with the Clarke County School system having taught at Wilson Hall and Clarke County high schools; and retired as a manager at the Clarke County Credit Union in 2005. An accomplished pianist, he instructed students throughout Clarke County. He was preceded in death by his wife, Willie D. Pippen. Survivors include four sons, Warren C. (Clara) Pippen of Hinesville, Ga., Wayne C. (Dorothy) Pippen of Birmingham, and Reginald Pippen and Harold (Pamela) Pippen, both of Grove Hill; two daughters, Harriett Pippen-Williams of Birmingham and Sheryl (Eddie) Bonner of Slidell, La.; granddaughter KeKe Cummings of Grove Hill, who was raised as a daughter; two sisters, Vendetta Dilworth of Birmingham and Barbara Jemmott of Fairborn, Ohio; four brothers, Archie Pippen and Mack Vern (Beverly) Pippen, both of Birmingham, Randall (Catherine) Pippen of Chicago, Ill. and Emmitt (Velma) Pippen of Jackson, Miss.; a host of grandchildren and great-grandchildren; and three devoted caregivers. Funeral services will be Saturday, Oct. 11, 1 p.m., at Orange Hill Baptist Church with the Rev. James Barren, pastor, and the Rev. Fernell Pendleton as eulogist. Viewing will be Friday, 6-7 p.m., at Andrews Funeral Home in Jackson. A second viewing will be one hour prior to services on Saturday. Interment will be in the church cemetery with military rites at graveside.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that donations be made to the Warren and Willie Pippen Educational Scholarship Fund at the First United Security Bank in Grove Hill.
