Millry police chief's wife reported missing According to Deputy Chief Terry Beasley of the Washington County Sheriff's Department, a missing persons report has been filed for the wife of Millry Police Chief Larry Harkless. Sherry Harkless and the couple's 1-year-old son, have reportedly been missing from their home on Katheryn Harkless Road in St. Stephens since Saturday, Sept. 20. Beasley said Chief Harkless filed the report after repeated attempts to contact his wife on her cellular phone and through family members were unsuccessful. Harkless stated that he left to go to his hunting camp around 8 a.m., Saturday, and his wife chose to stay home with the child. When he returned home later that evening, he found her white Mazda 626 gone and his wife and child nowhere to be found. A BOLO (be on the lookout) alert was issued Tuesday, Sept. 23, to other law enforcement agencies by the Washington County Sheriff's Department. Mrs. Harkless is described as a light-complected female with black hair and brown eyes, 5 ft. 4 in. tall, weighing approximately 165 lbs. Her white Mazda has an Alabama license plate with the number 58207AR. Harkless said there had been no recent dispute between himself and his wife and she had not indicated any intentions of leaving. "My main concern is for my son and his safety," he added. He also said he had spoken with several of her relatives in Deer Park and North Carolina, who have all indicated they have had no contact with her. Approximately one year ago, the Harklesses were involved in a domestic dispute that resulted in the Millry Chief's arrest on domestic violence charges. Those charges were later dismissed after his wife discontinued her complaint against him.
Anyone who may have information as to Mrs. Harkless' whereabouts is asked to contact the Washington County Sheriff's Department at (251) 847-2202.
