Chelsia Douglas accepted as a 2008 People to People Student Ambassador

Chelsia Douglas
Chelsia Douglas, a 7th grade student at Jackson Middle School (JMS), has been chosen to represent Alabama as a People to People Student Ambassador.

As a member of the Student Ambassador Class of 2008, Douglas will join a select group of Alabama students during the Hawaiian Islands Discovery June 18 through July 2. The 14- day educational experience includes meetings with government officials, interaction with other students and educational activities.

The Alabama delegation will study the Hawaiian Islands and seven Pacific cultures including Tonga, Tahiti and Fiji. They will also learn about the country's history by visiting Pearl Harbor and exploring the USS Missouri.

Honolulu, Oahu, Hilo and Kona are among the islands they will visit.

The JMS student was nominated and accepted for this honor based on academics, leadership potential and recommendations from educators of all levels.

The People to People Student Ambassador Program was founded by Dwight D. Eisenhower during his presidency in 1956. The Ambassadors embrace diversity and celebrate the common human experience that fosters international goodwill.

Douglas is the daughter of Harriette and Thamus L. Douglas. She is the granddaughter of J.W. Andrews of Jackson and the late Ida V. Andrews, and Edna Singleton Douglas of Spanish Fort and the late James Zerion.
