Sherrie Vanay Adams

Sherrie Vanay Adams, a resident of Ellenwood, Ga., died May 1, 2008 at her residence, at the age of 45. She was the daughter of Oreda Seals Adams and the late James Adams.

A 1981 graduate of McIntosh High School, she received a bachelor of science degree from the University of Alabama in Tuscaloosa and a master's degree in education from Mercer University in Atlanta, Ga. She was employed as a literacy coach at Austin Road Elementary School in the Henry County Public School System in Atlanta. She was a member of the First Baptist Church in Atlanta and served as a Sunday morning greeter. She volunteered at the Georgia Baptist Hospital nursery and as a youth Sunday School teacher at Green Forest Baptist Church in Atlanta. Until she left for college, she was a member of the St. Union Baptist Church of McIntosh.

Survivors include her mother; two sisters, Dorothy England of McCalla and JaNet Adams of Pasadena, Calif.; two brothers, James Wendell Adams of Mobile and Percy (Brenda) Adams of Birmingham; three uncles, Peter (Ella Mae) Adams of Carson, Calif., William Adams Sr. and Freddie (Helen) Adams, both of McIntosh; six aunts, Aline Woodyard of Prichard, Ida Adams of McIntosh, Corine White of Las Vegas, Nev., Octavia Adams of Mobile, Mary Jane (Charlie) White of Mt. Vernon and Maxine Adams of Loraine, Ohio; nieces and nephews, April (Clifford) Albright of Atlanta, Marcus Adams of Jacksonville, Fla., Deleon Adams of Buffalo, N.Y., Christopher England of Tuscaloosa, Charmayne Adams of Mobile, Michelle Adams of Talladega, Whitney and Ashley Adams and John (Ericka) England III, all of Birmingham; four great-nieces and nephews, Aliyah English of Calvert, Ty and Jay Albright of Atlanta and Kylie Adams of Mobile; sister-in-law, Debra Adams of Mobile; god-sister, Jackie Horn Jackson of Mobile; devoted friend, Sheila James Boykin; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services were May 8 at the St. Union Baptist Church with Elder Al Clyde Sauls, pastor and eulogist. Burial was in the Seals Family Cemetery in McIntosh under the direction of Andrews Funeral Home of Jackson.

Pallbearers were Charles Adams, Leroy Adams Sr., Matthew Adams, Terry Huff Sr., Richard Wiley Sr. and Anthony Thompson.
