Historical society will meet May 25 in Coffeeville

The Clarke County Historical Society will hold its May meeting in Coffeeville on Sunday, May 25 in recognition of Coffeeville's bicentennial.

The group will meet at Ulcanush Baptist Church at 2:30 p.m. Ulcanush is the oldest church in Clarke County, constituted in 1816. It is located on Highway 69 North.

Jim Cox, Clarke County newspaper publisher and a native of Coffeeville will talk about the community's history. Coffeeville dates its settlement to 1808 when the community was known as Murrell's Landing, named for early settler William Murrell.

The Coffeeville community is planning an afternoon celebration on Saturday, May 31 with a number of activities being planned.
