Clarke County IDB board members reappointed The Clarke County Commission approved Tuesday the appointment and reappointment of members of the county Industrial Development Board. Rick Harvey (District One), Peggy Armstead (District Three), Grady Bedwell (Jackson area) and Sam Shields (Coffeeville area) were reappointed. Chris Owes (District Two), Will Massey (Grove Hill area) and Rosalyn Sales (Fulton area) were appointed. All members will serve six-year terms. Commission members have expressed a need to add another member to give all five municipalities representation. Debra Bolen, executive director of the Clarke County Economic Development Partnership, said the IDB would have to pass a resolution and request an additional member from the county commission. The IDB Articles of Incorporation will need to be amended, Bolen said. A date has not been set for the next IDB meeting, she said. In other action from Tuesday's meeting, the commission approved a half page ad in a hurricane preparedness special section to run in all three county newspapers and a tabloid page in a Coffeeville bicentennial section in The Clarke County Democrat. • County Emergency Management Agency Director Roy Waite was approved to travel July 7-11 to Washington, D.C. as part of a group to promote completion of the El Camino Corridor (four-laning Highway 84). Waite's trip will cost the county approximately $2,100. • A discussion concerning service contracts for the air conditioning and fire alarm for the new courthouse annex was tabled until the May 27 meeting. Commissioner Elma Averett was concerned that the county get the best price for maintenance of both systems. • A low bid of $11,700 will be paid to Al Hill Boiler Sales and Repair of Theodore for a new hot water storage tank at the Clarke County Jail. The tank will be installed in the next seven to 10 days. • The Clarke County Jail was approved to fill the vacancy of a booking officer. • The commission approved the final contract assigning property to the Louisiana Pacific mill. • The county accepted the application for a new cemetery in the Sandflat area. • The commission will not hold a work session on May 26 due to the Memorial Day holiday.
• Commissioners Paul Bradford and Joe Hunt were not present at Tuesday's meeting.
