Hilliard honored at Grambling

Bernita Hilliard
Bernita Hilliard, a 1997 graduate of Jackson High School, was recently awarded an academic medallion for achieving a 3.97 grade-point average at Grambling State University in Grambling, La.

Majoring in biology with an emphasis in medicine and a minor in psychology, she is also the parliamentarian of the Swing Phi Swing Social Fellowship Inc.

In conjunction with her academic pursuits, Hilliard has served in the U.S. Air Force as a high frequency telecommunication radio operator, is a volunteer for the Foster Johnson Comprehensive Counseling Center and the Grambling State University Police Department Prevention Awareness program.

She is also a participant in the Black College Dance Exchange following instructors from the Alvin Alley Dance Company, under the direction of Dianne Mahroney-Grisby Orchesis Dance Company and she is a model for Black Dynasty Modeling Troop, Inc.

A native of Los Angeles, Calif., Miss Hilliard is the daughter of Pamela Hilliard of Jackson and Bernard Hilliard of Mobile. She is the granddaughter of the late Della and Allen Hilliard and the late Margaret and Eugene Caves.
