Clarke students among Troy University graduates Clarke County students receiving diplomas at Troy University's graduation exercises Friday, May 9 were: Lindsey Brooke Powell of Grove Hill, Schuyler Elizabeth Etheridge of Jackson and Kamren Leigh Jones of Thomasville. Billy Canary, president and chief executive officer of the Business Council of Alabama, addressed more than 400 graduates participating in spring commencement exercises at Sartain Hall on the Troy campus. He told graduates not to fear change, but embrace it, because they will see more changes than any preceding generation. "You see the amount of knowledge we possess as a people doubles every two years," he said. "However, with all the continuous change that has surrounded you since birth, the rate at which that change will continue will only accelerate as you enter your place in society." Canary told the students to emulate the "change agents" and the "unseen benefactors" that have helped them along the way, such as parents, siblings, teachers and friends.
"You have the choice to either be the agent of change or the recipient of change," Canary said. "Leave here ready to be that unseen benefactor, that agent of change that your family has dreamed you would one day be."
