Thomas receives captain's promotion in GAARNG

Capt. Thomas is joined by husband SFC Benjamin Thomas Sr. and son, Benjamin Thomas Jr. at a reception recognizing her recent promotion.
The Georgia Army National Guard (GAARNG) recently promoted Stassa M. Thomas to the rank of captain. She is the daughter of Mary and Eddie Bryant of Walker Springs.

"She is by far one of the top two junior officers, if not the top junior officer, I have had the privilege to serve with. I can't say enough good things about her work ethic and dedication as an officer. She is truly deserving of this promotion," said LTC Thomas Carden, the recruiting and retention commander for the GAARNG.

Capt. Thomas was pinned to her new rank by her husband, SFC Benjamin Thomas Sr. and LTC Carden. Her mother and son, Benjamin Jr. and daughter, Kynedie, also took part in the ceremony. Other family members who traveled from Walker Springs to attend the ceremony were sisters, Minnie Pritchett and Drusilla Bryant; brothers, Maury Bryant and Cassius Bryant; nieces, Shameca Bryant, Llwanna Johnson, Charnell Bryant, Kaitlin Bryant, Shanequa Bryant, Kyra Pritchett and Alaiyah Bryant; and nephew, Lexander Bryant.

In her opening remarks of gratitude, Capt. Thomas thanked God for granting her the strength, wisdom and perseverance to achieve all that she has throughout her military career. She is currently serving as the financial officer for the recruiting and retention command, where she is responsible for the strategic planning, management and execution of the command's 11 million dollar budget.

Thomas is a 1994 graduate of Jackson High School and received a bachelor of science degree from Charter Oak State College in Connecticut where she was a member of the Alpha Sigma Lambda Honor Society. She resides in Douglasville, Ga. with her husband and children.
