Alvin Williams takes over as New Era plant manager
By Evan Carden SA Editor

Alvin Williams
For several months there's been a new face at New Era Cap Company in Jackson.

Alvin Williams, former plant manager of the Demopolis plant, recently took over as the plant manager of the Jackson facility. "I am very pleased to be in Jackson and hope to make this plant as successful as we can," he said about his new job.

Williams and his wife, Virginia, still reside in Demopolis. They have two children, a son, Doug, who is a real estate agent on the Alabama Gulf Coast and a daughter, Allison, who recently graduated from the University of Alabama.

Williams has a long history in apparel manufacturing. After graduating from Livingston University, now the University of West Alabama, he went to work for Vanity Fair, working his way up to eventually manage the company's Demopolis plant.

When that plant closed in 1997, he took over as manager of the Atmore facility until 2000, when the New Era opened the Demopolis plant. He was offered the opportunity to manage that facility by Margaret Baty and jumped at the chance to move back to his hometown.

Concerning his move to the Jackson facility he said, "There has been a lot of transition taking place in Jackson. Great things are happening here with the expansion. I felt like I had reached a stage in my life where I needed a change. I have been visiting this plant for several months and look forward to being the full-time manager. I couldn't ask for a nicer group of people to work with."

Williams went on to point out that the Jackson plant recently marked its seventh year. "I'm not a person who came to bring about change," he said. "I want to sincerely thank the city leaders of Jackson and the Clarke County Industrial Development Board for having the confidence in us to assist with the nearly 50 percent expansion of this plant. We plan to work hard to return the favor."
