Aggies sweep Trinity, advance to third round
In the first game, Windham Jackson started things off with a solo homer and the Aggies plated two more runs to take a 3-0 lead in the first inning of what looked like a rout for the home team. But that would be all the scoring the rest of the way by either team, as the day was owned by the pitchers. Cody Bayles shut out the Wildcats with 5-1/3 strong innings of work on the hill and Jeremy Armstead picked up the save as the Aggies held on for a 3-0 win. J.D. Mitchell and Jeremy Reeves both had RBIs at the plate for Jackson. In the nightcap, Jackson fell behind 2-0 early before Anfernee Crayton cut the gap to 2-1 when he scored from third on a throwing error by Trinity. The score remained 2-1 until William Taylor blasted a tworun shot in the top of the sixth to put the Aggies up 3-2 heading into the final inning. Kent Myer shut down the Wildcats the rest of the way to pick up the win and send the Aggies into the third round. Myer went the distance scattering five hits and allowing just two runs. Taylor was the leading hitter for the Aggies with a 2-3 night with two RBIs. Sam Harbuck was also 2-3 with a run scored. 'Pitching really set the tone for both games," Aggie coach Jason Jones said. "There was not much hitting by either team." Jackson (28-5) will travel to Talladega County to take on the defending 4A champion Childersburg Tigers (23-8) Friday, May 2 "We had the chance to go watch them play Saturday. They are a solid club. They lost seven starters from last yearss team but they play good defense and their pitchers throw strikes. "Their best player is Brandon Wheeler and he was the 4A Player of the Year last year. From here on out every team we play is going to be good. You don't get to the third round if your not a good team. It is just going to keep getting tougher and tougher," Jones said.
The Aggies and the Tigers will kick off the best of three series at 4:30 p.m on Friday with the second game scheduled for 6:30. If needed, there will be a game three Saturday at 12 p.m.
