No. 2 Aggies rally past Andalusia to advance to the second round
Clarke County Tournament Jackson 16, CCHS 3 The Aggies rebounded after falling to Thomasville in the first game of the tournament and smashed Clarke County 16-3. Logan Breedlove (2-0) struck out two batters in four innings of work to pick up the win on the mound. Jeremy Armstead had a three-run homer, Jamie Eckstein was 2-2 with a solo home run, Mac Outlaw 2-2 with a RBI and Matthew Allen 2-2 to lead the Aggies at the plate. AHSAA First Round Andalusia 5, Jackson 3 Andalusia sent a scare to the home crowd by opening up the first round of the playoffs with a 5-3 win over the No. 2 Aggies. Cody Bayles took the loss on the hill, falling to 7-2 on the year. Jackson fell behind 3-1 early before Windham Jackson smashed a game-tying two-run homer over the left field fence in the bottom of the fourth. The game remained tied until Andalusia put up a two-spot in the top of the seventh before holding on for the win. Jackson only managed three hits in the game with Sam Harbuck going 2-3 with a double and Jackson adding the two-run shot. Jackson 14, Andalusia 0 Jackson built a 7-0 lead in the third inning before game two with Andalusia was suspended due to rain. Play resumed Saturday morning with the Aggies picking right up where they left off the day before. Kent Myer picked up the win on the mound allowing no runs and one hit while striking out five. Sam Harbuck was 2-3 with four runs scored; Windham Jackson 2-3 with a double, three runs scored and two RBIs; Myer 2-3 with a double, a triple, three runs scored and four RBIs, Armstead 2-3 with a three-run homer and five RBIs and Eckstein 2-4 with a RBI in the win. Jackson 8, Andalusia 6 Myer started the rubber game off with a two-run homer in the top of the first inning and the Aggies cruised out to a 6-0 lead. Andalusia answered back cutting the lead to 8-6 before the Aggies' pitchers took over by striking out eight out of the final 10 batters they faced. Jeremy Reeves picked up the win and Myer added the save with two innings pitched and five strikeouts. Myer was 2-3 with two homers and three RBIs to lead Jackson at the plate. Eckstein was 2-4 with a RBI and Reeves 2-4 with a triple and double for the Aggies. "In the first game, their pitcher did a good job," Aggie coach Jason Jones said. "We were able to pick up some walks but couldn't get a hit to score the runs. We had our backs against the wall (after losing game one). We knew we had the team to come back and win it and that's what we did. We wanted to come out and score some runs early so we could take control and set the tone for the game. "Kent led things off with a two-run home run and next thing you know we were up 6-0." Jackson will face a familiar opponent when Trinity comes to town Friday afternoon. The Wildcats spoiled the Aggies' title run last year on a game-ending triple play. "We just want to advance. That should be enough incentive. It may be a little more incentive because of the way they put us out last year. But they are just another obstacle we must get through to reach our goal," Jones said of a possible revenge factor against Trinity.
"It is great that we are playing at home. We have good support and our kids really feed off of it."
