Area Obituaries
Curley Dearmon, a native of Yarbo and a resident of Chatom, died April 20, 2008 at a local hospital at the age of 76. A retired chemical operator at Ciba Corporation, he was a member of the Fairhope Baptist Church, the Washington County Shrine Club and Chatom Masonic Lodge No. 471. He is survived by a son, Gary L. Dearmon of Chatom; daughter, Carla G. Ross of Chatom; brother, Perry Gene Dearmon of Chatom; sister, Frances Morris of Sand Hill, Miss.; three grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. The funeral was April 22 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Chatom with burial in the Fairhope Cemetery. Active pallbearers were Scott Dearmon, James Gilley, Joe D. Williams, Bob Gallant, Bill Chason and Gerald Everett. Honorary pallbearers were Arnold Williams, Leroy Gilley, members of the Washington County Shrine Club and the Chatom Masonic Lodge No. 471. Mary Pauline Grimes Mary Pauline Grimes, 81, died at an area hospital April 17, 2008. She was a native of Coffeeville and a resident of Mobile. Ms. Grimes was a homemaker and attended Dauphin Way Baptist Church in Mobile. Survivors include two sons, David G. Grimes of Mobile and John F. Grimes of Knoxville, Tenn.; four daughters, Frances M. Trimnal of Hobson, Barbara V. Grimes, Linda K. Grimes and Phyllis E. Myles, all of Mobile; one sister, Ruby Bedwell of Grove Hill; 10 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Funeral services were April 21 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home of Chatom with the Rev. Jerry Brown officiating. Interment followed in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery in Bigbee. Pallbearers were Floyd Newton, Terry Wayne Sexton, Bobby Sims, Douglas Grimes, John Gray and Edward Hare. Honorary pallbearers included Ray Trimnal and Bryant Myles. Zula Irene Wiggins Moore Zula Irene Wiggins Moore, a native of Mexia and resident of Gosport, died at the Jackson Health Care Facility, April 20, 2008, at the age of 94. She was a homemaker and a member of the Gosport Baptist Church in Gosport. Survivors include two sons, John Moore of Gosport and Boykin W. Moore of Ormand Beach, Fla.; two grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. Funeral services were April 22 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Grove Hill with the Revs. Jack Wright and Lee Merck officiating. Interment followed in the Gosport Cemetery. Pallbearers included Daniel W. Wiggins, Dan Wiggins, Mike Wiggins, W.W. Moore, John Day and Joseph Day. Honorary pallbearers were Tim Williamson, R.E. Garrick, John Lee, Herbert Bush, Donald Duke, Charlie Moore, William Moore, Walter Moore and James Moore. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pilots for Christ, Inc., P.O. Box 707, Monroeville, AL 36461. Frances Nell McBride Frances Nell McBride, died April 17, 2008 at her residence in Las Cruces, N.M. at the age of 75. She was a native of Whatley and resident of Las Cruces. An auctioneer for the state of Alabama, she was a member of the Whatley Baptist Church. Michael Kellen and Cynthia Carter, a son and daughter respectively, preceded her in death. Survivors include one daughter, Sandra Dunn of Las Cruces; one brother, Shellie Wilson of Mobile; and five grandchildren. Graveside services were April 21 at Magnolia Cemetery in Whatley under the direction of Lathan Funeral Home of Grove Hill. Cynthia Presnall Cynthia Presnall, 51, died April 17, 2008 at the University Medical Center in Jackson, Miss. A native of Jackson and a resident of Philadelphia, Miss, she moved to Neshoba County, Miss. in 1983. She was preceded in death by a son, Jamie Presnall. Survivors include her husband, Jesse Presnall of Philadelphia; daughter, Terrie Vowell of Philadelphia; mother, Mary Thompson of Atmore; stepmother, Beverly Darley of Spanish Fort; four brothers, B.B. Darley of Mobile, Mark Darley and Randy Darley, both of Spanish Fort and Tommy Guy of Lucedale, Miss; three sisters, Dinky Tyson of Excel and Barbara Thompson and Audrey Hinman, both of Spanish Fort; four grandchildren, Hadleigh Vowell, Carlee Vowell, Jamee Kate Vowell and Anson Vowell, all of Philadelphia, Miss. and a host of nieces and nephews. The funeral was April 21 in the chapel of Lathan Funeral Home in Jackson. Interment was in Trinity Memorial Gardens with Lathan Funeral Home directing. Lois Norris Lois Norris, a native of Higgins, Texas and a resident of Grove Hill, died at the age of 84, April 14, 2008, at the Monroe County Hospital in Monroeville. She was a homemaker and member of the Grove Hill United Methodist Church. Survivors include one son, Dan Walter Norris of Grove Hill; two daughters, Dianne Norris Welch of Monroeville and Carol Norris Keever of Auburn; seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. Graveside services were April 16 at the W.A. Smith Cemetery in Grove Hill with the Rev. Dave Rhodes officiating. Memorials may be made to the Children's Advocacy Center in Grove Hill. O'Bryant Chapel Funeral Home in Thomasville directed the services. Arthur Lee Sampson Arthur Lee Sampson, a native of Whitfield and resident of Mobile, died March 30, 2008. A graduate of Kinterbish High School, he served in the United States Army and was retired from Associated Scrap and Metal. He was preceded in death by his parents, the late Booker and Pheban Sampson, formerly of Jackson, and two children, Kenny Rembert and Latasha Jones. He was a member of the Union Missionary Baptist Church in Plateau, where he was an usher. Survivors are three children, Arthur (Donna) Rembert, Torris Sampson and Dwight Sampson; a stepson, Anthony Wiggins of Mobile; two brothers, Booker Sampson of Anniston and Eddie Sampson of Columbus, Ga.; three sisters, Ollie Burrell Mapp of Long Island, N.Y., Jettie Johnson of Jackson and Ida Sampson of Evergreen; a special friend, Martha Crenshaw of Mobile; a goddaughter, Joyce Griffin of Mobile; eight grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, other relatives and friends. Funeral services were April 5 at the Union Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor A.J. Crawford officiating. Interment was in the Catholic Cemetery, directed by Reese Funeral Home of Prichard. Bessie Maude Gibson Tindle Bessie Maude Gibson Tindle, 85, a resident of Gilbertown, died April 15, 2008 in Butler. Carlton Mosley and Lucille Carpenter, a son and daughter respectively, preceded her in death. She is survived by two sons, Gray Mosley and Robert Mosley, both of Gilbertown; one sister, Lessie Whittington of Shreveport, La.; 12 grandchildren, 24 great-grandchildren and four great-greatgrandchildren.
Graveside services were April 17 at the Red Springs Cemetery with the Rev. Jerry Turner officiating. The service was directed by Phillips Funeral Home of Gilbertown.
