Area Obituaries

Bernice Brown

Bernice Brown, 70, a native of Yarbo, died April 9, 2008 at her home. A member of Good Hope Baptist Church of Walker Springs, she served on the Usher Board and Culinary Committee. M.C. Johnson and Oscar Boykin, her parents; husband, Lindsay Brown; and sister, Vicie Mae Edwards, all preceded her in death.

Survivors include three daughters, Gwendolyn (Rene) Hill of Auburn, and Sonya (Maze) Stallworth and Linda (Burel) Boykin, both of Jackson; two sons, Antonio Hudson of Jackson and William (Loretta) Hudson of South Carolina; 11 grandchildren, Joshua Brown, Jacob Stallworth, Devin Boykin, Desiree Boykin, Dominique Boykin, all of Jackson, Shawn Moore of Birmingham, Antonio Hudson and Carlos Moore, both of Des Moines, Iowa and Tewonna Hudson and Tamon Hudson, both of South Carolina; seven great-grandchildren; one brother, Jessie James Nicholes of Mobile; one sister, Mamie Boykin Smith of Las Vegas, Nev.; two devoted nieces, Jackie Powell and Janice Taylor; one devoted nephew, Strawder Brown Jr.; special friends, Carolyn and Monroe White, Cindy and Frank Franklin; and a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Services were April 13 at Good Hope Baptist Church with the Rev. Clayton Davis Sr., pastor, officiating. Interment was in the church cemetery with Jackson Memorial Funeral Home directing.

Thomas Earl Jackson

Thomas Earl Jackson, 58, of Jackson died April 12, 2008 at his sister's home. He served in the United States Air Force as an aircraft maintenance specialist, mechanic and security police.

Survivors include two sons, Jonthan Jackson of Medina, Ohio and DeShawn Jackson of Fort Belvoir, Va.; three brothers, Melvin Mitchell of Far Rockaway, N.Y., Donnie Jackson and Joe M. Jackson, both of Jackson; one sister, Lula (Arthur) Dubose of Jackson; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be Saturday, April 19 at 1 p.m. in the chapel of Jackson Memorial Funeral Home. Interment will follow in the Good Hope Cemetery in Salitpa.
