Fiddler's convention this Saturday

The Sullivan Family, featuring Margie and Enoch Sullivan of St. Stephens, will provide entertainment for the 31st annual "Old Time Fiddler's Convention" at Frankville, Saturday, April 19, beginning at 5 p.m. W.N. Reynolds Lodge No. 900 F. & A. M. is the sponsor. Doors open at 4:30.

The "Old Time Fiddler's Convention," originated in the 1920s as a community event. It has been an annual event at Frankville since 1977 when the lodge took up the sponsorship.

In addition to the music show, the event features an old-fashioned pork and chicken barbeque with all the trimmings, a homemade cake sale and a music competition. A community and family oriented event, alcohol, drugs and offensive behavior are not allowed and will not be tolerated.

The music show for the public, which features the Sullivan Family, will precede the music competition. It will be conducted from 5-6:30 p.m. The fiddler's convention competition will begin at 6:45 p.m.

All musicians are invited to participate in the music competition. The categories are: Adult (17 & Over) Best Fiddler, Best Band, Best Vocal Group, Best Buck Dance, Best Banjo, Best Soloist, Best Flat Top Guitar, Best Mandolin; Youth (16 & Under) Best Fiddler; Best Soloist, Best Buck Dance.

Entries in the competition will be taken at the show. It is not necessary for musicians to preregister. There is no entry fee or charge for participation in the music competition. Cash prizes will be awarded.

Admission is $5 for adults and $3 for students.

Barbeque plates and sandwiches will be offered for sale beginning at 11 a.m. Plates are $7 and are sandwiches $2.
