Wreck claims Millry man

A Millry man was killed in the early morning hours Monday, April 14, near the Barlow community south of Millry.

According to Alabama State Troopers' reports, Jermaine Maurice Holcombe, 27, died instantly when his 2002 Mitsubishi Gallant left the road near mile marker 69 and struck a tree.

Other media reports stated that Holcombe was an employee at a factory in Jackson and was returning home from work when the crash occurred around 1:40 a.m. He was pronounced dead at the scene by Washington County Coroner Shane Thornton.

Thornton said Holcombe's vehicle struck the tree on the driver's side. Millry Fire Department personnel were called to the scene and extracted him from the vehicle.

According to troopers, the victim was wearing a seat belt at the time of the crash. His body was transported to the Alabama Department of Forensic Science in Mobile for autopsy. The wreck remains under investigation by Trooper Deas.
