The works of University of Mobile students Micah Gaston, left, and Ashley Southard, right, will be featured in the Senior Art Exhibit at the university's campus.
The University of Mobile Art Department will present the Senior Art Exhibit featuring the art of Micah Gaston and Ashley Southard April 19- May 2 in the Martin Hall Gallery located on the university's campus. A reception for the exhibit is on Thursday, April 24 from 4 until 6 p.m. in Martin Hall. The exhibit is free and open to the public Mondays-Fridays from 9 a.m. until 4:30 p.m.

Gaston of Grand Bay is a senior art and theology major. He is a 2002 graduate of Theodore High School. Hewill exhibit drawings and oil paintings in the show. His works express his spiritual journey through abstract colors and compositions.

"The concepts for Micah's work are visually complex and provide thought-provoking narratives which are imbued with intense colors," said assistant professor of art Phillip Counselman.

Southard of Cantonment, Fla., is a senior art major. She is a 2005 graduate of East Hill Christian High School. Southard will exhibit drawings, paintings and ceramics in the show. Her works investigate different aspects of life and reflect the various cultures she has encountered during missionary travel.

"Southard's works vary from realism to abstraction, each work being highly thought out and visually stimulating," Counselman said.
