MARK YOUR CALENDAR Town of Coffeeville to celebrate 200 years The town of Coffeeville will celebrate 200 years of success May 31. The genealogy committee encourages every citizen of Coffeeville to display his or her heritage on that day. Furnishing a display table and cover, artifacts can be loaned to the committee to be displayed and protected and returned that day. Ted Dunagan to autograph 'A Yellow Watermelon' A book signing will take place Saturday, April 26, 2-4 p.m. at the Clarke County Museum. Grove Hill native Ted Dunagan will sign copies of his recently reprinted book, "A Yellow Watermelon." Set in Clarke County, Dunagan's book, although fiction is largely autobiographical. For more information, call the museum at 251- 275-8684. 3C Coalition will meet at Mt. Olive No. 2 The 3C Coalition will host its monthly meeting Saturday, April 19, 10 a.m. to 12 noon, at the Mt. Olive No. 2 Baptist Church in Jackson. Several issues will be addressed including the church, city and communities. Everyone is invited to attend. Robert Dean is president and the Rev. D.W. Mobile Botanical Gardens to presents 'Bluegrass and Bluejeans' Bring chairs, blankets and a picnic to enjoy the sounds of bluegrass and nature Sunday, April 20 at 1 p.m. There will be Bluegrass and Bluejeans on the lawn with Delta Reign and Three-Quarter Moon appearing at the Mobile Botanical Gardens, 5151 Museum Drive, Mobile. Tickets in advance are $10 per person; $15 at the gate; children 11 and under are free. In the event of rain, the concert will be Sunday, April 27. Azaleas will be available for sale. Cultural Arts Center to present Apollo Night ECDT presents Apollo Night at the Cultural Arts Center (formerly known as the Locke Movie Theatre) on April 26 at 6 p.m. For additional information and other scheduled appointments, call 251-331-2271. Laton Hill Veteran's Memorial to host fund-raiser The Laton Hill Veteran's Memorial will host a fund-raiser at the memorial site in front of Laton Hill Church, Saturday, April 19, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The church is located approximately 9 miles west of Chatom on Highway 56. Emcee will be David Upchurch who represents Modern Woodmen of the World Insurance Company. Refreshments will be sold, there will be a rummage sale and cakes available for purchase. Chances will also be sold for a handmade quilt. Politicians are invited to make a small donation and they will be given the opportunity to speak. All are urged to support this project. In the event of bad weather, the event will be postponed. Decoration Day at Huggins Cemetery to be April 20 Decoration Day will be April 20, 10:30 a.m., at the Huggins Cemetery. Bring a flower to decorate graves, a picnic basket and lawn chair. There will be a guest speaker. Donations will be taken to assist with the upkeep of the cemetery. 'Ladies Night Out' being hosted by Jackson Academy Jackson Academy encourages all gentlemen in the community to bring their favorite ladies to a special "Ladies Night Out" dinner and auction tonight (April l7) at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House. Catered by Roussos, appetizers will be at 6 and dinner at 6:45. Limited tickets are available at the school. Nutrition center hosting health fair The Jackson Nutrition Center will host a health fair April 22, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House located at the golf course. There will be free health screenings, information booths, Games for Gold Dollars, entertainment and door prizes. Lunch will be served. All are invited to participate. WashCo Relay for Life announces fund-raiser The Washington County Relay for Life team GRITS will host a men's softball tournament April 19 at the Wagarville Park. Castleberry Strawberry Festival will be April 19 The 22nd Annual Castleberry Strawberry Festival will be held in downtown Castleberry, April 19. Arts and craft booths will line the streets and fresh strawberries will be for sale. There will be food vendors, free entertainment and fun for all. Entertainment will begin at 9 a.m. with Faith & Haley Shipp from Castleberry. The rest of the lineup will include, The Twin Creek Cloggers from Brewton, Just N Tyme from Andalusia, Emma Johnson and Carl Tillery & Friends, all of Evergreen. Mathews Cabin dedication will be April 27 at museum The public is invited to attend the dedication of the Josiah and Lucy Martin Mathews Cabin at the Clarke County Museum complex on Sunday, April 27 at 2:30 p.m. A reception will follow. The keynote speaker, Dr. David Mathews, a Clarke County native now head of the Kettering Foundation in Dayton, Ohio, will give a history of the cabin, and the arduous restoration process will be described by Clarke County Historical Society (CCHS) members. The two-pen log cabin was sold to the CCHS in 2005 by Lucy Oliver Dortch and her son, Bill, and moved from its location on Mathews Cemetery Road in Grove Hill to the museum. It was first built in the 1830s and occupied by pioneer settlers Josiah and Lucy Mathews. In the event of rain, the dedication will take place at Grove Hill Town Hall. OES hosts health fair The Bertha Mae Chapter No. 314 Order of the Eastern Star will host its annual health fair Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Jackson City Hall. There will be free screenings for blood pressure, glucose, hearing, speech, weight and more. Mini seminars on hospice care, nursing homes, immunization, nutrition, stress and others will be presented. This is a free community health awareness program and all are invited to attend. Citizens Against Litter announce April is 'Cleanup Month' The Clarke County Citizens Against Litter committee needs your help as April is statewide cleanup month. The committee is asking every citizen in Clarke County to assist in helping pick up litter if physically able. If all citizens took one large garbage bag and filled it with litter in their own area, Clarke County could be a cleaner county. Bags are available by contacting Rita Wilson at 251-276- 3358. Everyone is encouraged to care about the county and not litter. Roberts to gather for reunion The annual reunion of descendants and relatives of William Riley Roberts and Florence Almanza Cobb Roberts will be Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m., at Witch Creek Baptist Church near Campbell. SWAIA to host workshop The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) is cosponsoring "A Roast of Clarke County Mayors" May 3, 6 p.m. at the H.W. The Honorable U.S. Congressman Artur Davis will serve as the toastmaster and Mayor Sam Jones of Mobile will be the special guest.
