Cultural Arts Center

to conduct auditions

ECDT presents Apollo Night at the Cultural Arts Center (formerly known as the Locke Movie Theatre) on April 26 at 6 p.m. Auditions will be conducted at 4 p.m., April 3, 10 and 17 for all ages. For additional information and other scheduled appointments, call 251- 331-2271.

Laton Hill Veteran's

Memorial to host fund-raiser

The Laton Hill Veteran's Memorial will host a fund-raiser at the memorial site in front of Laton Hill Church, Saturday, April 19, 9 a.m. - 1 p.m. The church is located approximately 9 miles west of Chatom on Highway 56.

Emcee will be David Upchurch who represents Modern Woodmen of the World Insurance Company. Refreshment will be sold, there will be a rummage sale and cakes available for purchase. Chances will also be sold for a handmade quilt.

Politicians are invited to make a small donation and they will be given the opportunity to speak. All are urged to support this project. The goal is to raise $2,500 to make improvements at the site.

Decoration Day at Huggins

Cemetery to be April 20

Decoration Day will be April 20, 10:30 a.m., at the Huggins Cemetery. Bring a flower to decorate graves, a picnic basket and lawn chair. There will be a guest speaker.

Donations will be taken to assist with the upkeep of the cemetery.

'Ladies Night Out' being

hosted by Jackson Academy

Jackson Academy encourages all gentlemen in the community to bring their favorite ladies to a special "Ladies Night Out" dinner and auction, April l7 at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House. Catered by Roussos, appetizers will be at 6 and dinner at 6:45. Limited tickets are available at the school.

Nutrition center

hosts health fair

The Jackson Nutrition Center will host a health fair April 22, 10 a.m.-2 p.m., at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House located at the golf course.

There will be free health screenings, information booths, Games for Gold Dollars, entertainment and door prizes. Lunch will be served. All are invited to participate.

WashCo Relay for Life

announces fund-raisers

The Washington County Relay for Life team GRITS will host a yard sale April 12 at the McIntosh Methodist Church on Highway 43 in McIntosh beginning at 7 a.m.

A men's softball tournament will be April 19 at the Wagarville Park. The fee for participating will be $125 per team. For additional information call Nikki Tarver at 246- 7467 or 454-5886.

All proceeds support the American Cancer Society.

Castleberry Strawberry

Festival will be April 19

The 22nd Annual Castleberry Strawberry Festival will be held in downtown Castleberry, April 19. Arts and craft booths will line the streets and fresh strawberries will be for sale. There will be food vendors, free entertainment and fun for all.

Entertainment will begin at 9 a.m. with Faith & Haley Shipp from Castleberry. The rest of the lineup will include, The Twin Creek Cloggers from Brewton, Just N Tyme from Andalusia, Emma Johnson and Carl Tillery & Friends, all of Evergreen. Also performing again this year is Perfect Image of Mobile at noon.

'What's the Buzz' at the

library

The White Smith Library is announcing the summer reading program registration will be April 15-18. Early registration will be available April 14, 4-6 p.m. only

This program is for students currently in K-4th grade. Registration fee is $10 with the program being conducted the entire month of June.

Relay for Life captains meeting

There will be a Jackson Relay for Life captain's meeting on Tuesday, April 15 at 5:30 p.m. in the Boise Training Center.

Classic car and truck show to

be hosted in Thomasville

The Nuthin New Car Club will host their 18th Annual Show on April 12 at the Thomasville Plaza parking lot on Highway 43. It is an open show with 1st, 2nd and 3rd place plaques awarded on total points by the judges.

Entry fee is $15 per vehicle; general admission is free. There will be lots of door prizes.

OES hosts health fair

The Bertha Mae Chapter No. 314 Order of the Eastern Star will host its annual health fair Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. on the grounds of the Jackson City Hall.

There will be free screenings for blood pressure, glucose, hearing, speech, weight and more. Mini seminars on hospice care, nursing homes, immunization, nutrition, stress and others will be presented. This is a free community health awareness program and all are invited to attend. Door prizes will be given and refreshments served.

Coffeeville 'Spring Cleanup'

to kick off April 12

The Coffeeville community's annual "Spring Cleanup" kickoff will be Saturday, April 12 from 8 a.m. until. The meeting place will be at the Coffeeville Town Hall. A dumpster will be available across from Greer's, April 12-19. Do not leave debris, tires, batteries or appliances that have Freon in them.

Alabama Pals (People Against A Littered State) and the Coffeeville Beautification Committee are sponsoring this event.

Citizens Against Litter announce April is 'Cleanup

Month'

The Clarke County Citizens Against Litter committee needs your help as April is statewide cleanup month. The committee is asking every citizen in Clarke County to assist in helping pick up litter if you are physically able.

If all citizens took one large garbage bag and filled it with litter in their own area, Clarke County could be a cleaner county. Bags are available by contacting Rita Wilson at 251-276- 3358.

Everyone is encouraged to care about the county and not litter.

Roberts to gather for reunion

The annual reunion of descendants and relatives of William Riley Roberts and Florence Almanza Cobb Roberts will be Saturday, April 26, 10 a.m., at Witch Creek Baptist Church near Campbell. A covered dish meal will be served at noon. For more information call 251-246- 4928 or 251-246-7828.

Salitpa Health Fair to be

hosted by Springfield AME

Blood pressure checks, blood sugars, cholesterols, weights, Jump 2 It (exercise), body fat profiles and medication assistance screenings will be available free of charge to all ages at the Salitpa Health Fair. There will be games, entertainment, food and door prizes. SWAIA to host workshop

The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) monthly meeting will be Tuesday, April 15, 6-8 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. The meeting will be a workshop with Craig Baab, an attorney with the Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice in Montgomery, as guest speaker. The workshop is entitled "Protect Your Rights: Legal Issues Related to Heir Property." It is being sponsored by Alabama Cooperative Extension System (Washington County Extension Office Coordinator) and the Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice.

The focus of the presentation is on how to be aware of the risks involved in heir property, knowing your rights as a landowner and the proper steps to protect your land and rights.

SWAIA is also cosponsoring "A Roast of Clarke County Mayors" May 3, 6 p.m. at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House, downtown Jackson. Admission to this event is $5 per person. The Honorable U.S. Congressman Artur Davis will serve as the toastmaster and Mayor Sam Jones of Mobile will be the special guest.

All are invited to participate including those in political office or organizations, regardless of party affiliation. Support for this event in the form of program book ads, raffle ticket sales, prizes or personal donations are all appreciated. SWAIA, Clarke County ADC, Clarke County Voters League and Clarke County New South Coalition are jointly sponsoring the event.

Army

The Salvation Army Social Service office is open on Wednesdays from 9-11 a.m. and 2-4 p.m. When in need of assistance with food and a variety of other needs, the office attempts to assist where they can. For additional information call 246- 5693.

Heart of Dixie Collectors Club meets last Monday of

month

The Heart of Dixie Collectors Club will meet the last Monday of every month at the Jackson Steakhouse at 7 p.m. in the meeting room. Collectors of all types are welcome in sharing their knowledge and collections.
