Akridge is scholarship recipient
UDC scholarships are renewable to students who maintain at least a 3.0 average. Akridge is a junior-level honor student majoring in nursing at the University of Mobile. She was recently inducted into Alpha Chi National Honor Society in October, the only nursing student in her class to be so honored. Alpha Chi is a coeducational society whose purpose is to promote academic excellence and exemplary character among college and university students. In addition to the academic requirement, only those who can trace his/her lineage back to a Confederate soldier are eligible for UDC scholarships. Akridge is the great-great-great granddaughter of Elijah Harrison Bailey, a member of Wison's Guards, a local company mustered in at St. Stephens, who made up Company A of the 32nd Alabama Infantry Regiment. She is also a charter member of Chapter 2662.
Akridge was an honor graduate from Washington County High School in 2005. She is the daughter of Valerie Bailey Knapp and Anthony Akridge.
