SWAIA to host workshop The Southwest Alabama Improvement Association (SWAIA) monthly meeting will be Tuesday, April 15, 6-8 p.m. at the Jackson Steakhouse. The meeting will be a workshop with Craig Baab, an attorney with the Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice in Montgomery, as guest speaker. The workshop is entitled "Protect Your Rights: Legal Issues Related to Heir Property." It is being sponsored by Alabama Cooperative Extension System (Washington County Extension Office Coordinator) and the Alabama Appleseed Center for Law and Justice. The focus of the presentation is on how to be aware of the risks involved in heir property, knowing your rights as a landowner and the proper steps to protect your land and rights. SWAIA is also cosponsoring "A Roast of Clarke County Mayors" May 3, 6 p.m. at the H.W. Pearce Memorial Park Assembly House, downtown Jackson. Admission to this event is $5 per person. The Honorable U.S. Congressman Artur Davis will serve as the toastmaster and Mayor Sam Jones of Mobile will be the special guest. All are invited to participate including those in political office or organizations, regardless of party affiliation. Support for this event in the form of program book ads, raffle ticket sales, prizes or personal donations are all appreciated. SWAIA, Clarke County ADC, Clarke County Voters League and Clarke County New South Coalition are jointly sponsoring the event.
