Millry Council proposes park expansion Members of the Millry Town Council and the public conducted a lengthy discussion on the town's proposal to expand the town park, Monday night, March 10. The expansion will cost an estimated $220,000, with the town responsible for half. A grant from Resource Conservation and Development, a federal agency, will be sought. The grant for the development of the park requires a 50/50 match by the town. The grant for the walking trail is 80/20. Additions to the park will include baseball, T-ball and soccer fields; a picnic area, new concession building, restrooms, playground, parking, walking trail, a bridge over the creek and a basketball court. The town plans to seek donations from individuals and businesses as well as provide in-kind work as its share of the local match. For more information call Millry Town Hall at 846-2508. "There are so many of us in Millry and the surrounding communities who love and enjoy our park," said Mayor Roy Chapman. "A volunteer spirit is greatly needed on this project." In other business: *Actions included approval of some small purchases for the fire department, acceptance of the resignation of Police Officer Donald Beech and a vote to cease discharging waste into a sewage lagoon until some problems can be corrected.
*Several persons made favorable and unfavorable comments about Officer Beech during the meeting.
