Condition of Bud Odom Road unchanged since last month Joe Carter was back to speak with the Washington County Commission, March 24, as he had during two previous meetings, Feb. 25 and March 10. Carter who lives on the Bud Odom Road in Commissioner Johnny Johnston's district had told of the terrible condition of this road at the previous commission meeting. He had previously expressed frustration that the post office had told residents that if "….we didn't have something done by the end of March, the mail delivery will be stopped." Carter continued that the school bus is having great difficulty traveling the road. He stated, "We can get one and onehalf inches of rain and we can't go anywhere." At the February meeting, commissioners agreed that they and the county engineer would go look at Bud Odom Road, and the other commissioners would assist Commissioner Johnston with equipment and personnel to try to get the road passable. Jason Sturdivant, county engineer, told Carter, he could go down and make recommendations, but the implementation would be left to Commissioner Johnston. Sturdivant made several recommendations on March 10 that would be stopgap temporary measures, but that would help citizens get in and out. Apparently no action has been taken because at today's meeting Carter said, "I want to look Johnny dead in the eye and ask him, 'Are you going to do anything about that road- period'?" Johnston said that he had some culverts. "Yes, you've had them two weeks," Carter stated. "I don't want to lose our mail route. And we still have the problem of school buses tying to go in and out." "I've probably put in 50 culverts there since I've been in this job. What you're asking for is a miracle," Johnston retorted. "This is 2008. I'm not supposed to be up here talking to you, Johnny," Carter insisted. Johnston said, "We'll do what we can do. You are not the only ones. We have other parts of the county hollering, too."
Carter repeated that in 2008, he shouldn't have to come to a commission meeting pleading for road work. "These roads are supposed to be done," he insisted.
