Civil jurors released Monday morning as all Clarke cases settled or continued

Clarke County jurors assembled for just a few minutes Monday before being dismissed by Presiding Circuit Judge Tom Baxter. Civil cases were slated for the week but Baxter told the jurors that all cases had either been settled or continued and they were free to go.

One case that settled on Baxter's docket just recently would have taken three to four weeks to try and would have been an extremely complicated case, the judge explained.

Minnie Lee Williams et al vs. Ford Motor Company and Hamilton Timber involved a Ford truck that overturned injuring two people. The plaintiffs questioned the crash worthiness and safety of the truck.

Judge Baxter said that the case had been settled but the settlement was confidential and he could not divulge the particulars.

Choctaw County District Judge Pedro Scurlock was on hand to hear any cases on suspended Circuit Judge Stuart DuBose's docket but they were all either settled or continued also.

Clarke County Circuit Clerk Jay Duke observed after jurors had left that there are a number of cases on the criminal jury docket set for April.
