A commanding view
 | | Edward James of Jackson is a "strander cab" operator at the new Louisiana Pacific OSB mill but the job is much more complicated than the title implies. James sits in a spaceship-like control chair some three stories above conveyor chutes that deliver peeled pines to the "stranders," huge circular saws that cut the wood into strands to be made into OSB. In the background is the big woodyard that feeds the $250 million mill. The mill is located just off Highway 43 south of Thomasville and produced its first OSB last week. |
