Wearing more than one hat is not unusual for any member of McIntosh's Davidson clan, and Randy Davidson is no exception.

Davidson was honored Thursday, March 20, for 25 years of volunteer service to the McIntosh Rescue Squad. A certified EMT-Intermediate, he said his decision to join the squad was more of following a family tradition than anything else. "I really didn't have much of a choice," he laughed.

An employee of McConaghy Drug Stores, of Satsuma, for 15 years, Davidson is a medical equipment handler at his regular job. When he's not working, he's volunteering with the squad or tending to town business as a member of the McIntosh Town Council.

Staying so busy does not bother Davidson. "I enjoy serving my community," he said. "It's something my family has always believed in and was engrained in me a long time ago."

Davidson's mother, Marsha Davidson was a longtime member of the McIntosh Rescue Squad and is credited with creating the foundation on which the all-volunteer organization was built. The building which houses the squad's equipment is named for her. His brother, Robbie, is also a longtime member of the squad, as well as serving as McIntosh Fire Chief.

"There is a need here and we try to fill it," explained Davidson. "I would like to thank the community and town of McIntosh for their support and encouragement throughout the years."

Davidson was presented with a plaque from the squad recognizing him for his years of service by his wife, Candy, who also happens to be the squad's captain. A proclamation signed by all of the other town council members and Mayor Carrol Daugherty was presented to him by Police Chief Mike Barnett.
